"Coach" and Tony Junior are some of the most dynamic, skilled, and experienced commercial vehicle instructors you have the opportunity to work with. I completed their 10-week UAA Class-B to Class-A conversion class and had a blast learning with them! The one-on-one time was great as is their communication skills. They are tech-savvy as I was able to do Zoom training and online testing to accommodate my working professional schedule. Their programs are very flexible and allow for all types of professionals to complete their CDL instruction safely and with modern well kept instructional vehicles. I already work for the Fire Department, so all the skills Coach and Tony Jr. instructed me on, have tremendously helped me as I pursue my engineering promotion as a Fire Engine/Truck/Tanker operator. Additionally, since Tony encouraged me to procure my HazMat/Doubles endorsement, I recently started working at the Port of Alaska as a driver on the side. I went through the driving school to get my Class B CDL for my job, and the crew here were great to work around my schedule as needed. The training was great, but my only note is that I had several different instructors who gave me different ways of doing things and conflicted eachother and claimed the other way was wrong, which caused some confusion, as well as a misunderstanding of how long the bus actually was. All in all, it all worked out, I passed with a really good score, and learned how to drive a bus with success, and I plan on coming back later on to get an upgrade to Class A.

I recently took the basic riders course and it was a great time! Lots of good learning, step by step instructions with examples and a nice riding range. Shout out to Kat and Matt for being awesome and making the class a blast as well as sharing real life stories with the group. I will definitely be looking to do basic riders course 2 with ABATE in the near future. Thanks you guys. Keep up the great work!

Just completed the BRC and it was well worth it. Taught you basics needed before even attempting the real road. Matt and Kat did great as instructors due to them being patient, very thorough, and that they genuinely care about your future safety as a rider! Will be back to take the other advance classes offered.

Great experience here taking the Basic RiderCourse! Such great, informative instructors. They did an exceptional job teaching our class. I can't recommend their course enough! I'll be taking their advanced course eventually, too. Thanks y'all!!

Matt and Kat were great instructors. Everything was explained and demonstrated. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get into riding!

I spent two days doing my Basic rider course. Truly an amazing experience! I went not knowing anything and left passing my class and excited for buying a bike. I will be back!

Words can't describe how awesome the man in charge of this school really is. He has major respect and commitment for what he teacher's and passionately shows it off as he teaches in the class room and on the road. He's very serious about safety and explains the reasons behind the habits of safety. Not to mention his school is the only one in the ENTIRE state of Alaska that gives civilians the opportunity to train on a SKID car. He has told me about his journey to obtaining and bringing up this school, his past employment as an instructor for a different school, and all his hard work to have a space for SKID car training. He is very wonderful and his wife, who graciously works with him, is just as wonderful. The class is split into two four-hour days and then you have lessons. He works with all type of experiences and can get you a driver's test sooner than the DMV can (it does cost forty-nine dollars to take a driver's road test with them, but would you rather pay fifteen dollars for a waiting list?) They were able to give me a test two days after my last driver's lesson. Seriously, you have to choose this school. You won't regret it!

I took the instruction class a few years ago to get my permit and they helped a lot! I got my permit. They also helped me in area’s where I struggled more in. I came back a couple of days ago to get a refresher lesson on some things I wasn’t confident in for my drivers license test and he drove with me for a few hours and gave me tips that I can do to help myself and I passed the following Saturday for my license. They’re super nice and caring. I had a lot of anxiety for my test and they worked with me. They want you to succeed and be safe on the road. I will recommend them to anyone.

Mr. Knowlton is very knowledgeable and passionate about teaching new drivers. His skid car program is huge bonus for students. My son has been driving with me with his permit for nearly two years and I was skeptical that he would find the class interesting but for my own piece of mind, I sent him to through the program. He learned a lot and really enjoyed it. It's interesting to see the change in his driving technique. I'm far more comfortable with his driving skills now. Thanks!

The instructor Brian is a fantastic teacher who taught my older daughter to drive previously. We sought him out again so my younger daughter could receive his excellent instruction. She loved the class and it was definitely money well spent. She also took the Skidcar class and learned everything she needs to know to be safe on the snow and ice this winter. We highly recommend Alaska Safe Driver Academy.

Before I chose a driving school I went through and looked at various options and their reviews. From what I saw Alaska Safe Driver Academy LLC seemed like the perfect option and the skid car training was an bonus. I felt that what I learned in the classroom session could have been taught in an hour or two, but I assumed there was a required amount of in-classroom time needed. I figured that the actual driving would be more helpful. I went into The Skid car training excited to learn but while I did feel what it was like to Skid I didn't learn anything new about how to stop a skid, only prevention. I thought maybe it was just me but I talked to others, and they had similar feelings. The Skid car was definitely over hyped. Most of what I learned during the driving part was just from driving, and I could have done with a parent. My instructor seemed very nice, and I do not want to denigrate him, but he was not consistent with what he told me. For example, sometimes he said to signal in roundabouts and sometimes he didn't. Another thing was that during parallel parking he told me when to do what, so I didn't learn how to do it on my own. He also spent most of the lesson on his phone; I didn't feel that this was a big deal but my parents were pretty upset. I'm only writing this to warn others because I wish I could go back and choose a different driving school, and others shouldn't pay so much money for this poor experience.

My instructor (Adam) was amazing and did so much to boost my confidence and overcome my fear and anxiety around driving. He offered positive feedback throughout our lessons and his corrections were always gentle. The classroom portion was unorthodox but never boring. I subtracted one star because the woman at the front desk (Lynette) was condescending and rude each and every time I spoke with her for quite literally no reason. Thank you Adam and Butch!

Butch is awesome owner of the Academy: very experienced, patient, funny, diversified! I took his class myself nearly 17 years ago, and it changed my life. I became very confident driver. Recently my son took his classes, and it helped us to reduce insurance payments nearly to a 40%. I would recommend the services of this Driving Academy to absolutely anyone!

Greg was a really nice person. I’m glad he was my instructor for the 4 days driving with him. We talked a lot and was overall fun/ informative. Would recommend this class to those who are looking forward to get the privilege to drive or learn more about it. Great experience with all the staff as well and Jason who took my road test with me.

This is the best driving school in the state. The owner & operator's name is Butch, this man is the greatest driving instructor I've ever had the pleasure of learning under. He is kind, curtious, talkative (which helps you learn how to multi-task while driving), and smart and a whip; he makes sure your experience there is worth every penny. Within the four days we spent driving together I mastered parallel parking, properly navigating roundabouts, and merging into the highway, as well as the basic rules of the road. I can't recommend this business enough, there simply aren't enough adjectives in the English language. Learn here and you're guaranteed to leave an expert.

Good experience even if I had to try it twice. I read a lot of negative reviews here and I don't understand why? Let me tell you my experience... I tried last week for the first time, and i did had some mistakes that I am aware of ( cars distance, drive more preventive), i fix my driving problems, and i try again today. I passed. So if you know how to drive you will pass. I have to say also that I am a driver in Europe from over 10 years. Still have to acknowledge your mistakes. Thank you

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW!! PART 1/2 Before I get heavy on the details of my experience taking the Student Drivers Learn To Drive Program, I want to first briefly summarize some information about myself. I am a twenty year old male and I have always been afraid of driving, especially because I know that one mistake can be devastating under bad circumstances. I had never touched a steering wheel until 19, and I had only drove 3 times in total beforehand. All three times were in parking lots, and I had never been on the road. This horrible driving anxiety that I had affected me in so many ways. It was always embarrassing to have to let other people know that at my age, I had no license, and no permit. (I had gotten my permit in June), but beforehand everyone would laugh or be confused as to why I didn't even have a permit. At the same time, working was limited for me, I could only work at places I could walk to, and that is exactly what I have been doing. MY DETAILED EXPERIENCE OF THE "LEARN TO DRIVE PROGRAM". 8 HOUR CLASS: The first thing that will be taken is the 8 hour defensive driving class. Within this class you will be learning information about driving, the car/vehicle itself, and how certain circumstances must be dealt with. Before going into the building I was scared that I would be one of the only people there. I don't know why, but I was also sure there wouldn't be a lot of people around my age. I was wrong. The room was absolutely filled and most of the people were around my age or younger. There were two older women, one of them having her daughter as a translator to be there. Our teacher for the day was JACOB. When I tell you that this man is AN AMAZING, ENGAGING, AND FUN person, I am not lying. He immediately had all of the classroom pay attention, and get ready for the LONG class. He had our groups of tables come up with names, or assign one ourselves. Most groups did not pick their own names, he assigned them haha. The class had a ONE HOUR lunch break. Jacob put on some music, and people were free to eat inside the classroom, many people doordashed as well. The class went by extremely fast and by the end of it you are given a certification paper of your Defense Driving Course today. This can get you a discount on car insurance. The class itself was long, however went by really fast, the people were funny, nice. and during lunch I had a blast while talking to other people who are like me, learning to drive. The class is so rememberable, I can recall the group names, The back group, blueys, pooh bear(that was my group lol), the nerds, american hand sanitizers, and da cherries. 4 DAYS OF DRIVING : Once you are done with the class, you have four days of dedicated driving lessons with a one on one instructor in one of the provided cars from the school. One or two days before your lesson, you are supposed to get a call or text from your instructor to talk about your lesson. I had a minor problem here, my instructor never called or texted me, and when I called the school to ask why, they said they had my number with 307 instead of 907? I was confused since I remember putting 907 and I had a picture of it as well on my information paper you had to fill out in the beginning of the defensive driving class. None the less, they fixed my number, and were extremely kind about it. The day finally came where my lessons were taking place. My lessons were scheduled at 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, I was terrified, I was excited, but most of all, I was NOT EXPECTING what would happen next. My instructor Tanya came out of the car, affirmed who I was, and kindly asked how I am. After that, I assumed I was going to be taken somewhere to learn the basics of driving. I tried going into the passenger seat, but Tanya laughed a little and let me know that I'm actually going to be driving! I genuinely thought she was joking until it was obvious she wasn't. Get this, I had no experience at all in driving beyond a parking lot. I had only drove 3 times, and I had extreme road anxiety. (PLEASE FIND PART 2 HERE, MY REVIEW IS TOO LONG! )

Road test $100. Done without appointment in only about 30 min

It feels like they are only trying to make as much money as possible and they have an incentive to fail you. The cost for a driving test is a non-refundable $70 if you bring your own car or $100 to use theirs, which they don't say anywhere on their website for some reason even though it's a flat rate per test. I went on a Thursday morning, paid, and sat and waited for about half an hour. There was a sign saying if your phone makes any noise at all while testing it is an instant fail, which is a bit harsh, but maybe with benefit of the doubt they have a history of people using phones on the road test. Then the instructor called my name and started walking out and didn't even make eye contact or say his name. First thing they did is test my vehicle's lights, which is fine. Then we got in and I quickly tried to mention 2 issues my vehicle has with running rough just so my instructor is aware, but instead of appreciating my warning, the instructor said it's "better not to tell him" and if I say too much he would "have to fail me". So, for example, if my car starts having weird RPM issues for a few seconds during the test because it is in need of a tune up, you would rather find out while it's happening instead of knowing beforehand? Seems like an easy path to fail me or say it's running rough due to my actions. I failed for instances of stopping past a stop sign and stopping in a crosswalk, which I will not deny was my fault, but the instructor then had me drive straight back to the testing center, instead of finishing the test. I paid $70 for a full test and did not receive one. I would expect to at least finish the whole test since it's only 20 minutes and then receive feedback on other things I may have missed. Now, if I go back, it's easy for me to fail on a later part of the test that I didn't know, but I still have to pay $70 every time. I left the test feeling like I paid a lot for a 20 minute test and received a 5 minute fail with little constructive criticism.

Great driving school, they want to make sure their students are ready to drive safe. They also offer road test for the DMV. Instead of scheduling with the DMV ( in my situation 2 months wait) you can schedule it there for a little extra fee, but without the long wait ( next day! ) They also offer driving lesson. My child had the permit but needed the road test, I wanted to make sure she was ready and they offer driving lesson before the road test. So my child did driving lesson and based on the instructors feedback if she was ready or needed additional driving lessons. She passed with no issues. Thank you for the amazing instructor! As a parent my focus is not on passing, but having a child who is a safe driver. I highly recommend this driving school. Thank you.

I recently just got my license and driving experience through them and I’m so grateful. My instructor was so patient and supportive and I’m thankful that I got my license before the snow hit. I recommend using them to learn how to drive!

This driving school was reasonably priced and honestly a great learning experience. I took a lesson right before my test and the instructor told me everything I needed to improve on. Took the test and passed nice and easy! Tasha was patient with me and told me the things I need to look out for when driving after I passed. Would recommend to anyone looking to get their license, very friendly crew

I had an amazing experience at AK Daniel Driving School. The instructors were incredibly knowledgeable and patient, making me feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel. I appreciated the positive feedback I received from the instructors whenever I made mistakes during my driving lesson. I highly recommend going here for anyone looking to learn how to drive safely and effectively :)

Wow wow wow, how does one even begin to describe the service I received since day 1 when I walked in to ask about getting a road test done and to the day I walked in to take my road test they did their utter best to accommodate me ,the staff were so helpful and so attentive they put you first and treat you with such humbleness and kindness .I am forever grateful for them and I would highly recommend them for all your driving needs .Thank you so much to all the staff for all you do :)

My daughter just finished the 16 hour course and really liked it! She actually came out of the classroom portion with a smile on her face...pretty great for spending 8 hours on a Sunday in a classroom. Bill taught her behind the wheel class and she always came home happy from those sessions. Ray did her driving exam and she passed without any problems. She is such a confident driver now, and we've even learned a few things from her! It was definitely money well spent.

Instructors are awesome. My daughter has learned a lot and now I feel comfortable riding in the car with my daughter. It was scary before she took this class and they have gone over everything with her.
